Information is power and is a key to any witch’s practice! However, if you’re a newer witch, it can get overwhelming with the number of books out there. Knowing which ones are worth your time and money can be challenging.
That’s where this handy little post comes in! I’ve been a practicing witch for a few years, and today, I am sharing with you the 5 books that have been a staple in my journey. These books have been here since the beginning and are, in my opinion, a must for every practicing witch!

The Modern Guide to Witchcraft
A book covering the basics of witchcraft is a must for every budding witch. When I first started diving into witchcraft, this book was a massive help in laying the foundations and giving me a better understanding of what magic is and isn’t. This book’s most critical aspect was knowing that witchcraft isn’t evil.
I had an extremely religious upbringing, and when I wanted to start learning more about witchcraft, I had a lot of guilt that stemmed from spiritual trauma. This book helped lay those fears to rest and gave me an accurate perspective on magic.
This book was also helpful in guiding me on how to teach my witchlings about magic. It lays out the information in an easy-to-learn way that was great for even my young kiddos. This book is a winner if you’re a beginner and need a starting point!

Encyclopedia of Witchcraft
Wondering about the details of a specific diety? Or, are you curious about the history of the werewolves? This encyclopedia has got your back. Of course, the book is a beast, but it’s a savior when you need reliable information on everything from A to Z within the magical realm.
One of my favorite aspects of the book is that it covers everything you could imagine. I work closely with Baba Yaga and Krampus but always have difficulty finding information about them, and this encyclopedia has a page dedicated to each of them! It’s a winner and a book you’ll want to tab for future use.

Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Correspondences
Another chunky boy but an absolute staple is this big book of correspondences. When you first dive into spellwork, knowing what herbs and crystals to use in certain spells and rituals is essential, and that’s where this book comes in. Everything has specific correspondences, and you can look up certain emotions like power, healing, and love.
This book is one that I am constantly opening up to read and get information from. It’s helped me craft many spells while ensuring that every item corresponds with my intention. This book is a game-changer in creating a more profound and stronger practice.

Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells
This is just a post of really beefy books! This is another big boy book that has a permanent place on my witchy bookshelf. This book is just page after page of spells about everything you could think of and covers many different spellwork avenues.
Whatever your needs are, this book probably has a spell for it! I love using this book to help inspire and guide me in creating my spellwork. This book is excellent for every practicing witch who needs a nice chunky book with every possible spell at their fingertips!

Llewellyn’s Sabbat Essentials
So, this isn’t just one book but a series of books. I couldn’t just pick one as they all are equally great! Each book details each sabbat’s history and the best ways to celebrate it.
I love being able to crack open these books when a sabbat is nearing and using the information to craft a witchy menu and activities based on each sabbat’s correspondences.
