A little over a year ago, I remember my first discovery of tarot when I stumbled on a YouTube video where someone was doing a weekly reading. I had commented on this video about how I think Tarot is fascinating and I’ll never forget, the owner of the video commented back saying that this fascination was the cards reaching out to me.

I don’t know why but that comment still sticks with me today, probably because it immediately got me into learning more about tarot and tarot readings were the gateway drug for me jumping into witchcraft. Tarot was the start of it all.

Anyways, as I’ve grown in my craft and tried out various other methods of divination, tarot is still my tried and true. I think tarot is my favorite because of all the amazing decks that are available and how each deck can create an individualized experience in everyone’s spiritual journey.

And that brings me to today’s topic, my favorite tarot decks that I believe are great for beginners!

Smith-Waite Tarot Deck Borderless*

Every tarot collection should have an OG deck with the traditional tarot art and for me, this is the Smith-Waite borderless deck. One of the best ways to learn tarot is by learning the original artwork and the meaning behind each card.

Unlike the traditional Ride-Waite tarot deck, this decks art has a much more muted and pastel feel while still having the original artwork. I feel the borderless design creates a seamless experience and I love it for bigger spreads.

This deck has seen me through a lot of hard times and is the perfect deck for people wanting to dip their toes into tarot with its beautiful artwork and budget-friendly price!

Revival Art Tarot

I first learned about this beautiful tarot deck when I received a monthly overview reading from Magick with Maria. She had a page where you could pick out which deck you wanted your reading done with and this deck immediately called out to me.

This deck isn’t cheap (but what deck is?) but it sure is memorable and stunning to look at. It comes in a beautiful box that has some weight to it. The cards are easy to handle, shuffle beautifully, and feature emotional artwork by famous artists.

My favorite part of this deck is that within the guidebook that comes with it, each card gives the details of the art that is featured. If you get this deck, I highly recommend looking up the meaning behind each painting to get a richer experience with this deck!

Luna Soleil

This deck is a favorite one of mine and has been a part of my collection for a while now. It features a beautiful celestial design with artwork from Annalise Dragonetti.

One of my favorite aspects of this deck is how easy it is to shuffle. It’s a smidge smaller than your typical tarot deck and the cards are just thin enough to make my stubby weak hands happy when shuffling.

The artwork is lovely and you have 4 different color options to choose from. I chose white but you best believe that the onyx deck was a very close second for me!

Modern Witch Tarot*

I feel like this deck has been a staple in just about everyone’s collection, especially for the tarot readers who practice divination within their witchcraft journey.

I love this deck and it was one of the first I ever owned when I started my witchcraft journey. It has beautiful glossy cards with modern and colorful artwork. One of the best parts of this deck is the price, coming in around $20 for an affordable beginner deck that is perfect in any tarot collection.

Lucid Dreams

And last but certainly not least is the St. Soleil Lucid Dreams deck. I had my eyes on this deck for several months, waiting for the company to start shipping to the US. When shipping to the US opened, I snagged this deck so fricken’ fast and audibly gasp when I first opened it on Christmas morning.

This deck is not only stunning, but it’s incredibly informational for beginners and advanced users alike. Every card in this deck has an astrological symbol, zodiac, elemental keys, and upright + reversed keywords on each card.

The only downside to this deck is the price, it can be quite steep. But if you have the funds to afford it, do yourself a favor and pick it up. I love this deck so much and it never fails to make me swoon with its gorgeous gold foil and ethereal design. Honestly, if I had to choose one deck to keep for the rest of my life, this one would be it. It would for sure be the only thing I’d take to a deserted island!

And there you have it, friends, a few of my most loved and used tarot decks that I think are great for beginners. What are your favorite tarot decks? Leave your recommendations in the comments below!
