I know it seems like traveling and leaving our homes seem so far off π but one day we’ll get to venture outside and explore new places. When that day comes, here’s a little traveling tip for you! π No matter what island π΄ you go to your how long you’ll be there if you’re going to Hawaii the #1 thing you have to do is go to a Luau! π A Hawaiian luau is a gathering that is used to unite a group of people in order to celebrate. During our visit we did the Royal Kona Luau.

The second night that Andrew and I were in Hawaii we went to a luau that our resort hosted and it was phenomenal! π The food was delicious and we loved being able to learn and experience so much of the Hawaiian culture. πΊ And one of my favorite parts of our luau was watching the sunset. π
It was truly magical and an absolute must-do if you’re ever in Hawaii! π
The luau we went to took place in the resort that we stayed at, The Royal Kona. The tickets came with the vacation package that we booked through Costco, βοΈ going to a Luau was one of the activities that were heavily recommended to us when we were planning our trip. The luau started in the late afternoon, we waited in line until we got our tickets checked in the front of our resort. Once we were let in, they gave us seashell necklaces and we picked out our seats. Before the Luau started, we visited the open bar where we drank Mai Tais and spiked fruit punch. πΉ
A live Hawaiian band played near all the seats, setting the ambiance for the night. π΅ We ended up sitting across from a mother and her daughter who were having a girl’s trip at the big island. They had visited before and during dinner, they gave us amazing tips on places to visit and all the amazing food to eat. Shortly after we took our seats, everyone gathered around the earth oven to watch them dig out the roasted pig that had been cooking in the ground all day. π·
Once the pig had been unearthed, it was time to eat. Each table went up and served themselves buffet style. We got to eat traditional foods such as fresh pineapple, macaroni salad, and roasted pork. π€€ After the food had been served, it was time for the show. The sun had started to set and the dancers came out on the stage, each performing a dance that had a special meaning in the Hawaiian culture. π
Towards the end of the night, the host of the luau gave a shoutout to all the people celebrating a special occasion. Andrew and I were lucky enough to have them call out our name since we were celebrating our ten year anniversary! π And to end the luau we got to see a traditional fire dance before ending the night and the festivities.
Overall, one of the most amazing experiences. πΊ If you ever visit Hawaii, please go to a luau so that you can celebrate and learn all about the Hawaiian culture, eat authentic Hawaiian food, and hopefully connect and meet amazing new people!
