On a warm night in May, I met Ashley and Evan at Devil’s Lake State Park to photograph their engagement images. During their session they brought along their adorable little pup, Auggie to join them in the spotlight. We made our way up one of the paths near the West Bluff, stopping periodically to capture them in an area where the light hit perfectly, or to change their outfits before making it to the top of the bluff.

Ashley and Evan (and little Auggie) were such troopers with hiking all the way to the top of the bluff all while fighting off hoards of mosquitoes and sweating like crazy! I’m so blessed to have clients who are willing to do whatever it takes to get amazing images. Once we reached the top of the bluffs we found a little spot in front of some trees that let the sunlight in so magically. That sunset bokeh is seriously no joke! And can we take a moment to talk about Ashley’s ring? Talk about gorgeous!

Once we made our way down to the bottom of the hike, we ended their engagement session splashing around in the lake. These photographs are always some of my favorites because my shutter speed was low enough that it captured the blur of their movements. I loved watching Evan and Ashley dip their toes and walk in the water while Auggie ran and splashed all around them. I loved watching these two human beings love each other and capturing them in a location where they both love to be in. I can’t wait for their wedding in September!
